MUSE phase II has been selected in 4th call of IST 6th Framework Programme

In the second phase, MUSE plans to extend the multiservice access architecture with multimedia service enablers and fixed mobile convergence capabilities. Also new architectural concepts like distributed functionality or long reach optical access are proposed. MUSE will continue to influence standardisation with its research results, primarly in DSL Forum and ETSI, but also in Home Gateway Initiative, ITU-T and others. Concepts will be evaluated in lab trials. Assuming a successful completion of the on-going contract negotiations with the European Commission, the extension will start in January 2006 and end in December 2007.

MUSE Autumn School, Gent, October 3-6, 2005

The Flemish IBBT (Interdisciplinary institute for BroadBand Technologies) organises the MUSE Autumn School on BB Access. The four day training programme includes tutorial sessions on Ethernet/IP networking, QoS, and SIP. The course is complemented with practical hands-on excercises in the lab.

MUSE Workshop on Optical Access, Berlin, October 14, 2005

HHI (Heinrich Herz Institute) organises a workshop about optical access technologies studied in MUSE. For more information, cf. http://www.ist-muse.org.

ETSI TM6 approved the Spectral Management standard with strong involvement and lead from MUSE partners (TNO rapporteur).

8th MUSE consortium meeting

Around 120 attendees are expected during the 8th Consortium Meeting organised by NTUA in Athens in October to discuss the issues and the progress in the task forces and subprojects.

Some recent available deliverables

"Reference Models for a European Multi-service Access Network"

The document outlines the MUSE multi-service, multi-edge, broadband access architecture. It describes reference models and open interfaces.

"Prototype for initial test-bed evaluation of Carriergrade Ethernet platform solution."

The prototype demonstrates the feasibility of an Ethernet based multi-service access network. The implemented Mac forced forwarding provides a secure and scalable connectivity at layer 3. The control and management plane allows for the configuration of session and QoS guarantees in a multi-provider environment.

Deliverables, conference papers, and publications can be requested via the MUSE website: http://www.ist-muse.org

Conferences: MUSE has presentations at various conferences, amongst them ECOC (Glasgow 25-28 Sept.), BB Europe (Bordeaux 11-14 Dec.), COMNETS (Boston,7 Oct.), OSGi Alliance World Congress 2005 (Paris, 10-14 Oct.)

MUSE is part of the IST Broadband for All cluster. Other information from European research in this area can be found on the website of BREAD: http://www.ist-bread.org
