Wireless is key to goal of Broadband for All

To achieve the current administration's goal to make broadband Internet
access available to every U.S. household by 2007, the U.S. Federal
Communications Commission is acting to position wireless technology as an
attractive alternative to cable and DSL. To make this plan a reality, the
FCC is reallocating spectrum to wireless and expanding bands in the 5GHz
range. The agency hopes that if wireless can emerge as a real player in the
broadband marketplace, then the increased competition will result in more
affordable service for consumers.
